WHEN YOU DON’T FEEL INSPIRED
If you don’t feel inspired, don’t feel like doing “it”, or don’t feel motivated to get done what you know needs to get done, this is for you:
Waiting for inspiration is a trap.
Whatever you want to accomplish, whether it be health-wise, relationally, monetarily, all of it, it all will come with the unwavering dedication that no matter what, you will get it done.
Inspiration is great when it shows up, but simply waiting for it will do you no good. More often than not, you will never feel like doing what you don’t want to do.
Inspiration is built through motion.
So if you're in a season where you're feeling off, unmotivated, or disconnected from your goals, here are three reminders that will help you get back to doing what you know you need to do:
1. Move First and Feel Later
You don’t need to feel inspired to take action, you just need to decide and move.
Some of the best momentum shows up after you begin. So instead of waiting for the right time or energy, it’s up to you to create it.
This sometimes means starting small: Typing the first sentence, driving to the gym, making the first phone call. That’s what I did today when I didn’t feel like writing this, I started small.
Because after awhile, you realize that momentum and inspiration comes from movement and just deciding to start no matter what. Discipline comes from repetition, and the feeling usually follows.
2. Audit Your Inputs
What you feed your mind will determine how inspired or uninspired you feel.
Who you follow on social media, what you watch, and who you listen to all contribute to your daily inspiration. They either will fill you up or drain you.
You can’t feel inspired if your input is uninspiring, so switch it out and start auditing on a daily basis what your inputs are.
And if you don’t know where to start, that’s what The Toolkit is for. :)
3. Reconnect With Why You Started
When you feel uninspired, it’s usually because you’ve lost sight of the bigger picture.
Remember why you started and why you’re doing this in the first place. The day-to-day can feel dull and monotonous, but reminding yourself of this on a daily basis will help bring you back.
Remind yourself, inspiration is a tool. It’s not a requirement. Most people don’t feel inspired everyday, they’ve just simply taught themselves to keep pushing forward no matter the mood, the circumstances, or the requirements of their day.
Don’t feel discouraged by the lulls in life - just remind yourself that this is your time to prove to yourself that you’re willing to show up and do what you need to do no matter what.
