PEOPLE SKILLS THAT WILL MAKE YOU $$ + SET YOU APART
In a world that’s becoming increasingly automated, your people skills will always set you apart, personally and professionally.
In the world of AI, it has never been more important to cultivate interpersonal skills that help you build valuable relationships to push your business and life forward. The ability to connect, communicate, and lead with humans can be your greatest asset.
Here are 4 people skills you need in both life and business that I’ve observed from some of the best communicators in my life:
1. Ask Good Questions (And Don’t Make It About You)
The best people to be around are curious and ask questions of others.
Most people listen to respond, not to understand, but the ones who win in business and in life are the ones who ask meaningful questions, listen fully, and make others feel seen.
People love to talk about themselves, so make it a practice to ask questions and truly listen without making it about yourself.
2. Public Speaking (Even in Small Rooms)
I have learned that while you don’t need to be able to give a TED Talk, being able to public speak gives you confidence and clarity that will push you forward personally and professionally, even if it’s for a small group or in front of a camera for social media.
This is a skill I am always trying to work on, and every time I am asked to public speak in some regard, I always try to say yes even when I don’t want to because I know it is all practice.
Public speaking isn’t about being the loudest, but it helps you learn to communicate your ideas and vision across to any group in any situation. Public speaking is one of the biggest fears in most humans, and even if you never feel less scared doing it, practicing this skill will push you far above most people in any industry.
3. Reading the Room
Learn how to read body language, learn when to pause, learn when someone needs encouragement, and when they just need silence. Reading the room can give you rapport and emotional intelligence is what makes leaders magnetic and trustworthy.
4. Follow-Up and Follow-Through
The people who stand out aren’t always the most impressive in the moment, they’re the most consistent afterward. Doing what you say you’re going to do, giving a quick ‘thank you’, a check-in two weeks later. Those small gestures are what build long-term relationships.
In the next decade, a lot of things will change, but people skills will always matter.
The ability to lead, connect, and build trust in real life is one of the most powerful “investments” you can make in your growth.
Work on your presence, refine how you listen, speak clearly, and follow up. Your people skills will move you further, quicker.
