TAKING CONTROL

How often do you think about the idea that you have more control over aspects in your life than you think you do?

When we feel like we are at the mercy of our day-to-day experiences or negative feelings, it is very easy to feel like we are in the passenger seat of life. I know this because I have experienced it many times - in my lowest, most self-sabotagey moments are when I feel the most out of control.

Starting my running journey again has reminded me of this notion that we as individuals actually have more power than we give ourselves credit for. I decided to start running again not just to improve my health and fitness, but because I literally thought to myself, “If I want anything to feel hard, I want it to be because I am choosing this for my own wellbeing.”

While we don’t have the power to control everything, we can be better at controlling our own actions and purposefully doing hard things. And when we push ourselves to go further than we want to go and do more than we want to do to get more in alignment with who we want to be, it builds metal endurance and confidence in more areas of life. When we start to see movement and results, this leaves us with a feeling of more control over the things that we want to continue to change.

This week, write down 1-2 things in each of the following categories that you can do to start taking more control versus being a bystander in your own life:

  • Health

  • Career

  • Finances

  • Personal Growth

  • Relationships

When it feels hard, remember to repeat to yourself, “I don’t stop.”

You got this!
