A WORD ON RESILIENCE

This past week, for the first time in literal years, I started running again.

Everyday after work, I strapped up my Hoka’s, drove to a path, turned on my hype playlist, put one foot in front of the other and ran. Even when I was slooooooow, very sore, and tired, running those trails and hills was the worst yet best feeling in the world.

It was the worst yet best feeling in the world because whether it was raining or 85 degrees, when my calves were burning, when I thought I was going to throw up, and when I wanted to stop, I kept going.

The book I am currently reading, Discipline Equals Freedom by Jocko Willink, literally got me through those runs. In the chapter titled “Destroyer Mode”, Jocko writes,

“…when it doesn’t make any logical sense to go on, that’s when you use your emotion, your anger, your frustration, your fear, to push further, to push you to say one thing:

I. Don’t Stop.”

Those three words were all I was saying to myself during those runs that felt like the longest 45-minutes of my life: “I don’t stop. I don’t stop. I don’t stop.”

What areas of your life do you need to repeat those three words to yourself?

Personally, I am committed to hitting my final weight loss goal before the end of the year. And every time I don’t want to drink another protein shake or do my two daily workouts, I will continue telling myself, “I don’t stop.”

Start something you’ve been putting off this week to get you closer to your goals, and every time you feel like giving up, just don’t stop.

I’m proud of you!
