KEEP OR CUT

“Keep or cut?”

A question we should be asking ourselves every single day.

In order to continually grow and become more in alignment with who we were created to be, the absolute best version of ourselves, we have to give ourselves the freedom and discipline to decide on a continual basis what is serving us and what is holding us back.

Some parts of our life are obvious in not serving us. But the reality is that we’ve all conditioned ourselves to accept certain things as they are without analyzing the short-term and long-term effects it has had on our lives.

When I was eating like garbage, drinking alcohol regularly, spending time with certain people, and not using my energy to be productive, I felt good in the short-term, yet the long-term effects made me lose respect for myself in how I looked, how I acted, and how I thought.

It’s time to raise your standard for yourself and ask yourself: Keep or cut?

The food you consume: Keep or cut?

Your current routine: Keep or cut?

Alcohol or substances: Keep or cut?

Certain relationships: Keep or cut?

Growth requires pruning. A few weeks ago, my friend (hi Leigh!!) was helping me plant flowers in my garden. She explained the importance of cutting certain flowers once they’re dying, because if the dying flower isn’t cut, the rest of the plant unknowingly gives its energy to something that is physically unable to grow any longer instead of putting its energy towards growing something new.

Every time I am unsure of whether to keep or cut, I look at the repercussions of what that decision or particular action has had on my life. If it’s made me better and has kept me on track to keep my goals, I keep. If it’s taken my sense of peace and makes me feel empty or unfulfilled, I cut. The more you practice this, the better you’ll be at trusting your gut on what’s worth keeping and what’s worth cutting.

Here are the questions to ask yourself:

  • Has it made me a better person and will it continue to do so?

  • Has it brought me peace or anxiousness?

  • Has it brought me closer to the things I love or further away?

  • Have the challenges this thing has brought me been positive or negative? We can’t avoid challenges, yet some are productive in pushing us forward and some keep us stuck.

Raise your standard! I’m proud of you.
