HEADS DOWN

This past week, I ran a race for the first time in three years. Although it was only a few miles, I kept repeating to myself that, no matter what, I wasn’t going to stop and I was going to do the best I could to focus on my own performance.

Throughout the race, every time I found myself getting too focused on all of the people who were much farther ahead of me, I had to remind myself to keep my head down, to keep going, to not stop.

When I was about a half mile towards the finish line, my brother (who had already completed the race), ran back to find me so that we could finish the race together. I will never forget that moment when we were running towards the finish line and he continued telling me, “Finish strong, finish strong, finish strong”.

Running those miles was yet another reminder for me that when you are working hard to grow, to be different, and to build an exceptional life, you have to keep running your race. You have to keep your head down.

This means:

  • Pushing yourself to new levels by doing more than what you think you can do.

  • Committing to doing the best you can do and being the best that you can be.

  • Focusing on setting goals and meeting them, then doing it again, and again, and again.

Keeping a gauge of who’s ahead gives you an idea of where you need to grow, then it’s time to put your head down again and keep running. And, just like my brother did with me, when you’re doing what you’re supposed to be doing, the right people will come along the way to help you.

Heads down.
