THE 4 D’S
Life is always sending us tests. Tests of strength, tests of adversity, tests of faith or belief in ourselves.
Growing up in school, teachers would give us tests or pop quizzes to gauge where we were at in our learning of a specific subject.
Life is the same way. We are given tests, often when we least expect it, and often more than one at a time. However, these tests aren’t punishments, they’re opportunities. Assessments of our mindset, our patience, our faith, and our ability to push through when it’s tough.
If you find yourself in a test season right now, I want to share something that’s helped me - a simple framework I got from Ed Mylett a few months ago: The 4 D’s.
These are the 4 tactics that are most commonly used to make people give up right before the breakthrough.
The 4 D’s are:
Doubt: “I can’t do it.”
Discouragement: “It’s not working.”
Delusion: “It’s too far away.” “It’s fine the way it is.”
Delay: “It’s never coming.” “I’m not ready.”
As you face whatever test you’re in, ask yourself this:
What is this teaching me?
Which of the 4 D’s are being used to make me want to quit?
What are three tangible ways I can do everyday to ace this test?
Trust that the test is shaping you and making you a better player. The pressure is preparation.
