PUTTING SKIN IN THE GAME
The scariest, yet most fulfilling life you can live is when you start to put skin in the game.
When you decide to get off the sidelines of your life, a shift starts to happen.
Putting skin in the game means that you make an active decision to get up and begin:
Taking a leap (even, and especially, when it means you may fail)
Contributing
Making a change
It’s time to raise the stakes in your life.
As humans, we will never value what we haven’t sacrificed or worked for. This means that if you want to grow, start putting something on the line. If you want to change, invest in it. Putting skin in the game is the responsibility of you - only you can make that decision for yourself.
While your version of putting skin in the game will look different than someone else's, risking your time, money, energy, or your name will force you to think differently, act differently, and move with urgency.
Not many people do it because it’s scary, but the payoff will make every sacrifice, every scary season, every tough or unsure moment worth it.
This week, I want to challenge you to look at the areas where you’re saying you want growth and ask yourself where you haven’t put any skin in the game. Whether it’s:
Investing your cash
Starting a business
Investing in a mentor
Putting your name on the line
…. remind yourself that growth doesn’t come without investment. Every time that you decide to invest in your own success (even when everything in you doesn’t want to), it’s a signal to your brain that you are serious about who you’re becoming.
No one is going to do it for you, but if you put skin in the game, I promise that you’ll begin to rise to meet the level of who you were created to be.
