MAINTAINING VS. BUILDING

I have been on a health journey for what feels like eons - a journey of losing weight, gaining a little weight back, and losing weight again. However, I finally just met my weight loss goal (70+ pounds!) that I’ve been working towards for literal years.

When I was talking to someone this past week about how I have been working to gain more muscle in certain areas of my body, they asked how frequently I have been lifting heavier weights. I had to take a second and think. How often do I lift heavier, and when I do, is it consistent? I then realized that I’ve been lifting around the same weights for months without even thinking about it. I’ve been maintaining, not building.

Are you maintaining or are you building?

Not maintaining or building in the gym, but in the areas that you want to change in your life. Your business life, your financial life, your relationship life, your personal well-being and growth.

While there are seasons where maintaining certain areas of life is necessary because of the need for focus in other areas, simply maintaining every area all the time will never get you where you want to go if you have a big things you want to accomplish.

Maintaining keeps you where you are, and building moves you to where you could be.

Building new muscle requires more weight (discipline) and more pushing (consistency) despite the discomfort, yet it grows our capacity to be able to handle more and more to the point where anything less than that weight feels too light.

We were not created to maintain the same mindset, the same habits, the same results - we were created to build a beautiful life that we’re proud to call our own, whatever that means to you.

So today, ask yourself in what areas are you maintaining and are you building, and where can you start to lift heavier?

As this is being sent out, I’m at the gym lifting heavier than I ever have and am building right alongside you. :)
