HONESTY AND COMPLACENCY

When was the last time you were honest with yourself? And I mean truly, genuinely honest with where you are at mentally and physically in relation to where you know you need to be.

In the past few weeks, I reached a goal that I have been working towards for almost a year and a half. The day I achieved the goal, I felt a mix of pride and excitement. I felt those same feelings the day after, but simultaneously knew that I was back to square one. Not because I didn’t celebrate a victory, but in being truly honest with myself, I know that there is so much more to be done to get to where I want to be.

Honesty and complacency go hand-in-hand.

When you set goals and have a vision for your life, you have to always, always, always be analyzing where you are at in relation to those goals. Analyzing your actions, your behaviors, your relationships and shifting what needs to be shifted, changing what needs to be changed.

And once you hit your goal, it’s onto the next step, onto the next level. No pausing or slowing down.

You will never feel truly content if you’re not candid with yourself on where you’re at and doing what you know you’re supposed to be doing. Getting people around you who you can trust with your life and who you know will be honest with you is also a necessity. I’ve had a couple of these conversations recently. However, we have to be able to do this for ourselves on a consistent basis.

Even when you’re not where you want to be, there is a feeling of pride and gratification in taking steps every single day to getting closer to where you want to be. And as you grow, as you change, there will always be a next step and new level - we should never “arrive” in living a life of becoming the best we can possibly be.

Sit down with yourself this week and take inventory - once you are truly honest with yourself and begin taking the actions to change what needs to be changed, give it time and watch how much more satisfied you will feel in the process of achieving your goals and growing to new levels.
